We
run tailor made interactive drama workshops and projects for
schools, holiday programs, environmental and community groups.
These explore the importance of healthy ecosystems and the
effects of pollution, inspiring the children to devise their
own short plays. Children participate in exercises which stimulate
their creativity and their environmental awareness, alongside
their self-esteem and social skills.
The
program we offer to schools incorporates aspects of the Key
Stage 1 and 2 National Curriculum. Our residential workshops
can run from 3 weeks to a whole term, working with one class
for 1 or 2 sessions a week. Sessions are sometimes taken out
of the school to local wildlife gardens or reserves. Residencies
in the past have included planting projects and site specific
plays.
“The
residency is absolutely brilliant. The kids are really enjoying
it. The workshops are helping communication skills and reinforcing
collaboration and working together. They usually find it hard
to work together. It is bringing out the best in some children
who aren’t able to articulate in writing, it’s
developing their imagination and creativity – I’m
amazed myself the way they perform out there. The workshops
are also covering issues that we don’t have time to
teach – giving them awareness. They are a difficult
class, usually there is a lack of motivation to do anything,
but in the workshops they are really inspired and enthusiastic
– it’s incredible.“ - Joseph Lancaster
